He "died in his sleep while taking a nap prior to a scheduled show at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis." You know, that's not a bad way to go. Ray Brown was one of the great jazz legends I was lucky enough to meet when I worked at the Concord Jazz festival. I was at KDFM, engineering and producing a weekly jazz show, working with Carl Jefferson, the founder of Concord Jazz Records, and some of his associates. I had the opportunity to work backstage at the Jazz festival, rubbing shoulders with jazz greats, jazz groupies, and Phil Edwards whose work is better than his website would have you believe.
