Yann Martel, from Canada, has won the 2002 Booker Prize for his novel Life of Pi.

Newsweek was reporting last week that a mix up had occurred and that Martel's novel had been announced as the winner on the Booker Prize website. The betting on the winner was heavy as usual, with the favorite being William Trevor's The Story of Lucy Gault.
