Excellent editorial today in the Wash Post
The Post criticizes Attorney General Ashcroft for his stance on civil liberties during the past year.

The article reminded me of a couple quotations, one from an American attorney and the other from an Irish politician...

"Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government's purposes are beneficial. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding."
    Louis D. Brandeis

"The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance"
    John Philpot Curran
