More on the rocket
It turns out that what we saw last night was a Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile that was subsequently intercepted by another missile fired from the Marshall Islands.

This seems to be the latest "Star Wars" program, called the ground-based midcourse defense (GMD) development program. Last night's test was successful.
